For help with problems with payments and the unlock procedure, email me directly at
payproblem@glidos.net.
This address is for payment problems only.
I would much rather that technical support queries go to the forum or Jigluhood
where all can gain from the information.
There are two good places to get technical help with Glidos.
The Vogons forums cover every aspect
of running old games on new hardware, and there is a forum specific to Glidos.
There is also a Jigluhood for Glidos.
I monitor both so which you use is up to you.
With Vogons, you can just go straight to the
Glidos section and post a question.
You don't have to register, although I'd rather you did if you don't mind.
With the Jigluhood, questions are asked and answered via email,
so you need to join the Jigluhood for a while.
Once your problem is dealt with, you can easily
unsubscribe again if you like, or stay
subscribed to receive announcements of new versions of Glidos,
and games that are found to work with Glidos.
The Jigluhood also has a usefule files area.
Many people have initial problems setting up Glidos, but get it working perfectly with help.
If you do have problems, IT IS MY FAULT; hassle me about it.
Well, it might be the fault of your sound card or graphics card drivers, but hassle me anyway.
There are a few known problems:
-
Installation of Glido has damaged my computer
So you've installed Glidos and a few weeks later you've found your hard disc and BIOS wiped.
Let me guess: you have installed one of the hacked versions of Glidos, from a Russian web site, to avoid paying the $10
registration fee.
Well, I'm sorry to tell you that the hacked version installs a virus. Nothing to do with me, and
not my problem.
You get what you deserve.
Buy a new BIOS chip, run FDISK to reinitialise, reinstall Windows and make sure next time you donwload
Glidos it is from this site.
-
DOS box and then nothing.
Lots of DOS games get very unhappy if there is CD drive or removeable hard drive with nothing in it.
Even the versions of games that have been cracked not to require a CD still
like drives to be full with something.
So make sure you fill all your drives.
-
Movies cut short.
Some people find that the movie sequences in Tomb Raider get cut short.
This can happen if your computer can't keep up with the data generated by Glidos's VESA support.
If you find this happens to you, try editing the file called Glidos.ini which you can find in the folder
C:\Program Files\Glidos,
and removing the line
VESASupport: Yes
Without VESA Support, there is a risk that your graphics card will play up during the
movie sequences, so you may have to replace the line, and go back to having the movies cut short.
-
Dark screen.
Provided that your graphics card driver supports a thing called the gamma ramp, then Glidos will adjust Gamma.
If you press the "Adjust" button on the Glidos console you will find a control for fine tuning of Gamma.
-
Glidos asks for the Unfinished Business CD.
This is just a check to try to avoid a potential crash.
If you have downloaded the UB levels from the net and want to play them with the TR CD in your
drive then you need to edit the file called Glidos.ini (which lives in the Glidos folder), and
remove the line that says CDCheckFile.
-
Glidos says "Can't find XXXX... YYYY is not installed properly".
If you have installed the game then probably you have installed it in a location other than
the one Glidos was expecting.
You can either reinstall, or edit Glidos.ini to tell Glidos the true location of the file.
- Glidos says "Can't copy XXXX".
You've probably lost one of Glidos's files.
Reinstall Glidos.
-
Descent II fails to start.
A window flickers for a moment then nothing.
You probably haven't got the Descent CD in your CD drive.
Review the Glidos installation instructions for Descent II.
-
No mouse support in Descent II.
Use the "Adjust" button to put Glidos in fullscreen mode.
- Reset.
The latest but one drivers (ver 23.12) for nVidia cards may cause your computer to reset when you put a
DOS command window into full screen mode.
This will prevent you running Tomb Raider with or without Glidos.
Version 28.32 of the drivers do not seem to share this problem.
- Crash.
If you have two CD drives, you place the Tomb Raider CD in the second and nothing in the first then it will crash.
This is a problem with Tomb Raider not Glidos, but Glidos will at least warn you.
The one case that Glidos can't detect is having both Unfinished Business CDs in your two drives simultaneously.
Avoid doing that.
-
Crash.
If you use VDMSound under Windows 2000 or Windows XP (which I recommend) then be sure to disable the "hints" box
that pops up whenever VDMSount is used.
-
No music.
Since version 1.10, Glidos has provided a new feature that should restore the atmosperic music effects that were
previously lost under Windows 2000 and XP.
If this feature does not work for you, check that you are putting the Tomb Raider CD in your primary
CD drive, and check also that you can play Audio CDs in that drive.
If you can't play CDs: check your audio mixing settings; try altering the
"digital audio" setting for the drive; and check you have an internal cable
joining your CD drove to your sound card.
-
Installer error.
The installer sometimes displays an error.
This doesn't seem to affect the installation, except that no shortcuts appear on the desktop or in the Start menu;
you have to add your own
-
Visible task bar.
Sometimes in full screen mode, Glidos leaves the Windows task bar visible.
You can ignore it or repeatedly reload a saved position until the task bar disappears.
It seems to be fairly random.
Another way around this is to bring the mouse pointer down over the task bar (the mouse pointer
will be invisible until it hits the task bar).
Then drag the top of the task bar down to make it very thin.
After doing this, it will seem like Glidos has crashed, but you just need to move the mouse up
a bit and click it to restart Glidos.
-
Very slow.
The OpenGL support provided by the drivers supplied with some graphics cards is insufficient to run Glidos.
Try downloading the manufactuer's latest drivers.
You may find you have no OpenGL support at all, which will cause Glidos to run
in software mode and be extremely slow.
Again the manufacturer's latest drivers may fix this.
-
Brown rectangles and muddy water.
The first time you run Glidos you may find that all transparencies look brown and
you cannot see through the surface of water.
If so, try pressing F4.
If that doesn't help, press F3 and then F4.
Once you get it right, it should stay that way.
Actually, I think I've fixed this one.
-
Missing lightening in the Thor room.
Stop the game, delete the file called SETTINGS.DAT from within the c:\Tombraid folder,
and then restart the game.
All will be well.
